Seth Riggs Biography

Seth Riggs is without question the most sought-after vocal coach in the music industry. He is the pioneer of the Speech Level Singing Technique, a method which was once considered ‘unconventional,’ but is now held in highest regard by top singers, producers, and managers across the country.

Seth began his career at the age of nine singing at the Washington National Cathedral in Washington D.C. He went on to train in all areas of the performing arts with the top instructors in the industry. He joined his first professional union, Actor’s Equity, two years before completing his undergraduate degree, and subsequently became a member of all the performing unions: AFTRA, SAG, AGVA, AGMA, and ACRA (the Association of Canadian Radio Artists).

Seth spent ten years in New York City performing on Broadway and as a guest artist with the New York City Opera. It was during that time that he discovered his tremendous gift for teaching. Singers flocked to him, often leaving their current teachers behind. Seth tried to share the merits of his teaching method with other instructors, but because his technique was considered ‘unconventional,’ it was frowned upon by the teaching establishment. He was kicked out of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and lost positions at the colleges where he taught. Rejected, but not dejected, he left New York and headed west to Los Angeles where he has established the most versatile school of vocal technique in our time.

Seth Riggs is considered the entertainment world’s top vocal instructor. Over the years, he has assisted many thousands of singers, including over 100 Grammy award winners, four Metropolitan opera winners, and countless stage, screen, recording, and television personalities. The diversity of his students reaffirms the universality and practicality of his technique.

Seth draws over 1000 new voice students per year without advertising. He lectures and conducts Master Classes on vocal technique at colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada. He was the first to contend that pop and musical theatre singing could be put on equal footing with opera. He was right.
